The First Gold for Brazil Arrives On the Last Day of Para Badminton

Daniele Souza defeated the Peruvian Jaquelin Burgos in the final of the female's singles WH1.

Sunday, November 26th, 2023.- Brazilian Para athlete Daniele de Souza won the gold medal in the female's individual competition in the WH1 category of Para badminton, beating Peru's representative, Jaquelin Burgos, in Sunday's final. 

Souza won 2-0 in the match held at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico, with scores of 21-13 and 21-13, in 25 minutes of play. 

This gold medal adds to the silver one obtained by the Brazilian representative, who had finished second in the female's doubles WH1-WH2, partnering with Ana Gomes. 

With this result, Souza surpasses her performance at Lima 2019, where she won a bronze medal. 

Burgos, on the other hand, had previously won gold in the same event, partnering with Pilar Jáuregui, who in this competition retained the gold from Lima 2019 by defeating the Brazilian Maria Gilda Antunes in two sets, with scores of 21-4 and 21-2 in the WH2 category, in 18 minutes of play.
