Chile Prevails Over Brazil in Final Match of Tennis

Francisco Cayulef and Diego Pérez defeated the Brazilians Ymanitu Silva and Leandro Pena in the battle for the gold in the quad doubles category.

Saturday, November 25th, 2023.- The wheelchair tennis competition at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games came to an end with the dramatic gold medal match in the quad doubles category. The Chilean pair of Francisco Cayulef and Diego Pérez emerged victorious against the Brazilian duo Ymanitu Silva and Leandro Pena, securing a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-7 victory. 

The first set was tightly contested, with both teams giving their all on the court. However, they struggled with their serves, resulting in four breaks on each side. The set was ultimately decided in a tiebreak, where the Brazilians narrowly won 7-5. 

The second set experienced a 14-minute delay as Ymanitu Silva faced issues with his wheelchair. Once the set began, the Chilean team showcased their prowess, breaking their opponents three times to force the match into a super tiebreak. 

The final showdown was as competitive as the entire match, with the Chileans having to come from behind to win it 10-7. The entire match lasted two hours and 21 minutes. 

With the gold medal earned by Francisco Cayulef and Diego Pérez, Team ParaChile's gold medal count reached 15, contributing to their total of 49 medals.
