Grenada's Para athletes and a cyclist will compete in field and cycling events this weekend at the Parapan American Games

Grenadian Para athletes are set to compete in the remaining days of the Parapan American Games at the Centro Atletico Mario Recordon National Stadium.

Saturday, November 25, 2023.- The athletes and their respective coaches have taken advantage of the excellent facilities in Santiago to prepare for their competitions. Their training included gym sessions, practice throws, and familiarizing themselves with the stadium environment, among other things.

Coach Ronald Charles has expressed satisfaction with their preparations and the positive attitude of his athletes. In addition to the Para athletics events, Sheldon Francois will also compete in the men's tandem event on Sunday. Cycling coach Troy Felix and Sheldon Francois have practiced in the Games village to familiarize themselves with the route of the cycle race on Sunday. 

Tyler Smith and Nickel Walkers will both participate in field events this Saturday. Walkers will be the first to compete in the F44 discus, followed in the evening session by Smith who will compete in the shot put men's F42 class. On the same evening, both athletes will compete again in the javelin, but in separate categories.

ABOUT THE GAMES

The Americas Paralympic Committee is responsible for representing the Paralympic Movement in the region and organizing its flagship event, the Parapan American Games. The Parapan American Games Santiago 2023 is a great opportunity for athletes to directly qualify for the Paralympic Games Paris 2024. This is the 7th edition of the Games, which started on November 17th and features 31 nations participating in 17 different sports. The first Parapan American Games was held in Mexico City, Mexico in 1999 and saw 1,000 athletes from 18 countries participate. Since then, the Games have consistently grown and expanded.
