Friday, November 24th, 2023.- A thrilling final took place this Friday at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, as wheelchair tennis delivered excitement in the female's draw.
Dana Mathewson entered the multi-sport event as the clear favorite to win gold on the Court Central of the Estadio Nacional, and she lived up to expectations.
The world No. 7 played an emotionally charged match against Colombian Angélica Bernal, ranked 10th globally, whom she defeated 6-3, 4-6, and 6-2.
The closely contested match is evident in the duration of the encounter, which extended for two hours and 11 minutes on the clay of the Ñuñoa commune.
Thus, Dana Mathewson emerged as the gold medalist, with the silver going to Colombian Angélica Bernal, and the bronze to Chile's Macarena Cabrillana in women's wheelchair tennis.
