Chile's Boccia Team Qualifies for Semifinals, Will Face Canada

The local team, which had defeated Mexico in the morning, secured a spot among the top four at Santiago 2023 thanks to Argentina's victory over the same Mexican team.

Friday, November 24th, 2023.- The Chilean boccia team BC1/BC2, composed of Andrea Guzmán, Javier Bastias, and Germán Calderón, advanced to the semi-finals at Santiago 2023 thanks to Argentina's victory over Mexico in Group B.

The local team had lost in the opening match against the Argentinians, and in their second appearance this morning, they defeated Mexico. However, their fate depended on the final group match, as if the North Americans defeated Argentina, it would have been necessary to review the points to determine the qualifier.

It wasn't necessary to go that far, as after a 5-5 draw (a result that already qualified Chile), Argentina won the tiebreaker by just one point.

Andrea Guzmán, a Chilean player, nervously watched the match between Mexicans and Argentinians. At the end of it, she stated, "In the morning, we suffered a lot to win, and now again watching this match. Luckily, the result we needed happened."

In the semi-finals, Chile will face Canada, the winner of Group A, while Argentina will face Brazil.
