Friday, November 24th, 2023.- Wimana Stewart secured Trinidad and Tobago's first gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, thanks to his 58.02-meter throw in the F64 discus throw (physical disability in lower limbs competing with prosthetics).
Stewart achieved his best mark of the day in his fourth throw, confirming the favoritism associated with his name, although still shy of his personal best.
The Para athlete holds the world record for the event, with 63.70 meters, which he set at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
Coming into Santiago 2023, he had a reference mark also superior to the one achieved on this Friday: 59.95 meters.
With this result, Trinidad and Tobago clinch their first medal in the current continental event.
The silver medal in the event went to the American Max Rohn, with a throw of 52.31 meters, while the bronze was claimed by the Cuban Yorisan Monterey, with 38.23 meters.
