Friday, November 24th, 2023.- The Brazilian female's goalball team had won gold in the three previous editions of the Parapan American Games that included this sport (Guadalajara 2001, Toronto 2015, and Lima 2019), so they didn't want to leave Santiago 2023 empty-handed. They achieved their goal, winning the bronze medal by defeating Argentina 10-0 in the final.
Danielle Vilas Longhini scored five times (07:22, 07:11, 00:01, 08:45, and 05:50), Moniza De Lima contributed with three more goals (06:56, 11:05, 06:21), while Jessica Gómez (00:30) and Aparecida Ferreira (00:26) closed the victory.
"It was a good game in which Brazil once again showed that it is within the competition, that it is a strong team, and that it did not reach the final just because of a regrettable and undeserved slip. The teams are much better in goalball. We wanted to win gold, we couldn't, but we will try again in the next Parapan American Games," commented Danielle Vilas Longhini, the top scorer of the match.
In goalball (a sport for athletes with visual impairments) at Santiago 2023, eight female's teams participated, matching the quota for male's teams.
