Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- Cuban athlete Ever René Castro convincingly won the F41 javelin throw (low stature) with a throw of 33.47 meters, becoming the new Parapan American record holder for this event.
The Cuban, who entered the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games with the best previous mark (36.63), aimed to take advantage of the absence of Mexican Jesús Morales, who had won the gold and set the Parapan American record in Lima 2019.
He succeeded with flying colors, confirming his good form to stand atop the podium and, in addition, break the American record held by Brazilian Jair Porfirio (33.13) since April 2019.
"I came to compete to improve my mark, and I leave with a medal and a record. I thank God, my family, and the people of Cuba. I am enjoying this result, and I imagine that everyone in my town will be happy with this achievement; this victory is for them," commented the Para athlete from Puerto Padre in the town of Manabión, who has been crowned the national champion of Cuba on several occasions.
The silver medal went to Carlos Alfredo Camargo of Venezuela, who threw 30.21 meters, while the bronze was awarded to Ecuadorian Marco Antonio Churuchumbi, with a record of 29.92 meters, earning his second medal in Santiago 2023 after winning gold in shot put.
