Brazil Secures Gold and Sets a New Parapan American Record in F63 Shot Put

Edenilson Roberto Floriani secured victory with a mark of 14.59 meters. The silver medal at Santiago 2023 went to Team ParaChile's representative, Nicolás Castro.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- The male's shot put F63 (athletes competing with prosthetics) event concluded with Brazilian Edenilson Roberto Floriani winning the gold medal, achieving a distance of 14.59 meters in the third attempt, during the final held at the Centro Atlético Mario Recordón at the Estadio Nacional. 

Floriani also set a new Parapan American record, surpassing the previous record of 10.71 meters held by Peruvian athlete Carlos Felipa, established at Lima 2019. 

Chilean athlete Nicolás Castro secured the silver medal with his best throw of 11.93 meters in the fifth attempt, while Felipa earned the bronze with a distance of 10.61 meters. 

Edenilson Roberto Floriani suffered a traffic accident that caused knee atrophy and hip joint issues on the left side. His notable achievements include a bronze medal in shot put at the recent Paris 2023 World Championships and gold medals in javelin and shot put at the 2018 Colombia Open Championship.
