The United States Takes Gold in Female's Tennis Doubles

The North American pair of Dana Mathewson and Maylee Phelps defeated the Brazilian duo composed of María Fernanda Alves and Meyricoll Duval. Colombia secured the bronze.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- The United States had to work hard to secure another gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, but ultimately the pair of Dana Mathewson and Maylee Phelps celebrated in the women's wheelchair doubles final. 

The North American team defeated the Brazilian duo of María Fernanda Alves and Meyricoll Duval on the Court Central of the Estadio Nacional, with a tight score of 6-3, 2-6, and 10-8. 

An indicative fact of the intensity of the match on the Santiago clay is that it lasted two hours and five minutes. 

The bronze medal, on the other hand, went to the Colombian pair composed of Angélica Bernal and Johana Martínez, who defeated the Chileans Macarena Cabrillana and Sofía Fuentes. 

The match was overwhelmingly in favor of the Colombian team, winning by a clear 6-1 and 6-0 in one hour and seven minutes of play.
