Para Swimming: Brazilian Da Silva Wins His Sixth Gold Medal

Simply unstoppable in Santiago 2023, Samuel Da Silva has dominated in every event he participated in, the latest being the male's 200m freestyle S5. Colombian athletes Carlos Serrano and Mariana Guerrero also secured gold medals.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- Brazilian Samuel da Silva has been simply unstoppable in Para Swimming at Santiago 2023: he has participated in six events, and he won them all. 

The latest one was the male's 200m freestyle S5, where he triumphed with a time of 2:53.73. Colombian swimmers Miguel Rincón (2:54.83) and Kevin Moreno (2:56.19) followed him. 

Previously, Da Silva had won in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle (all in S5), 4x50 freestyle 20 points mixed relay, and 4x50 medley 20 points mixed relay. 

Another standout performer is Colombian Carlos Serrano: he added his third gold medal (along with two silvers and one bronze) by winning the men's 50m freestyle S7 with a new Parapan American record. 

Serrano set a mark of 27.49, surpassing the record he had set in Lima in 2019 (28.19). The silver went to Argentina's Iñaki Basiloff (29.34), and the bronze to Cuba's Yosjaniel Hernández (29.53). 

In the female's 200m individual medley SM8, the gold went to American Haven Shepherd with a time of 3:03.26, followed by Brazilian Cecilia Jerónimo (3:05.36) and Colombian Laura González (3:07.96). 

In the female's 200m freestyle S5, Colombian Mariana Guerrero took the gold with a time of 3:06.55. The silver went to Brazil's Lidia Vieira (3:12.97), and the bronze to Argentina's Ana Noriega (3:18.61).
