Goalball: Canada Achieves Major Victory, Advances to Female's Gold Medal

The Canadian team overcame a formidable opponent in Brazil and is now on the path to secure another gold medal. Their next opponent will be either the United States or Argentina.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- Speaking of favorites in female's goalball, Canada and Brazil are always considered strong contenders to reach the final, although fate had it that this anticipated final would be played in the semifinals.

In a tremendous match, Team Canada emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over the Brazilian representative, with three goals from Emma Reichkne, the standout not only in today's game but throughout the tournament.

Undoubtedly, the just-played semifinal qualifies as one of the best matches of the tournament, as affirmed by Canadian coach William Farebrother.

"We knew Brazil was going to be tough, and if we faced them, the game would be like this. We had to win it no matter what," he said.

Brazil, on the other hand, is left to digest the defeat and awaits Argentina or the United States to determine their spot on the podium at Santiago 2023.
