Colombians Defeat Peru and Finish Fifth in Female Basketball

With 26 points from Gladys Gómez, Colombia defeated Peru and secured the fifth position in wheelchair basketball, concluding their participation at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.- The Colombian team secured the fifth position in wheelchair basketball by defeating Peru 39-27 in the first decisive day of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games at the Polideportivo 1 at the Estadio Nacional.

Gladys Gómez emerged as the standout player for the Colombian team, registering 26 points and 13 defensive rebounds (14 in total). They solidified their victory in the final quarter with a score of 15-4.

In the post-match assessments, Melissa Quiroz expressed satisfaction with the Colombian team's performance. "We met our objectives because we knew there were stronger teams, and the goal is to keep progressing, continue with the process, and aim for a podium finish in the future."

On the other hand, Peruvian Karina Torres acknowledged that, although the team achieved the sixth position, "our goal was the fifth place. We will work much harder for the next Parapan American Games. Almost 50 percent of the team is made up of new players, and the experience was very nice, so thanks to Chile," she concluded.
