Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023.- Nine years ago, when Chile hosted the 2014 Parasouth American Games, Yanivé Torres also was in Santiago and celebrated a triple victory, thanks to her wins in all three throwing disciplines.
This Wednesday, now at the Parapan American Games level, the Colombian has once again celebrated in the Chilean capital, this time in the F54 javelin throw (seated category).
Her throw of 15.78 meters was unbeatable for her rivals and, in the process, set a new American record, surpassing the 13.89 meters of Brazilian athlete Elizabeth Rodrigues.
In this way, she repeats the success achieved four years ago in Lima, a good reason to have a happier birthday than expected (she turns 44 on Sunday) alongside her newborn baby.
"It's a very big emotion, a process that takes many years. Six months ago, I had my baby, so we started this process five months ago. From the beginning, we aimed for the top of the podium,"
The silver medal went to Brazilian athletes Poliana Fatima de Sousa (14.07 meters), bronze in the Peruvian edition four years ago, and Elizabeth Rodrigues (13.75 meters).
Chilean athlete Francisca Mardones also repeated the fourth place she achieved in Lima 2019, with a throw of 13.51 meters.
