Colombian Francy Osorio Wins Gold in the 1,500m T13

The Caribbean long-distance runner secured the gold medal at Santiago 2023 with a time of 4'35''59.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023.- The female's T13 1,500 meters (visual impairment) event crowned Colombian Francy Osorio with the gold medal, clocking in at 4'35''59, securing victory at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

Osorio's journey in Para athletics is unique. She initially started her athletic career in conventional sports, running distances of 5,000, 10,000, and even 12,000 meters. However, as her degenerative condition progressed, she transitioned to Paralympic sports, competing in the 1,500 and 800 meters—events for the T12 category to which she belongs and has excelled on the track.

Completing the podium in the competition held at the Centro Atlético Mario Recordón were Mexican Daniela Velasco, with a time of 4'50''53, and Canada's representative, Keegan Gaunt, with a mark of 4'53''75.

The T13 class includes athletes with less severe visual impairments eligible for Para athletics, characterized by the highest visual acuity and/or a visual field of less than 20 degrees radius.
