Brazil Wins Gold, Silver in Long Jump T11/12

Lorena Silva secured the first place with a jump of 4.73 meters, followed by her compatriot Alice de Oliveira, who achieved 4.42 meters.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023.- Brazil achieved a one-two finish on the podium in the female's long jump T11/12 category (almost total visual impairment) at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, thanks to Lorena Silva and Alice de Oliveira.

With a jump of 4.73 meters, Silva secured the first place in the competition and claimed the gold medal, although it fell short of the Parapan American record set by her compatriot Gabriela Mendonca in Lima 2019 (5.34).

"I feel very happy and fulfilled. I had won Parapan American medals, but never gold, so I am very content. I renew my confidence; I feel that I am capable of achieving many more things in sports," commented the winner, who won a bronze medal in the long jump at Toronto 2015, while in Lima 2019, she secured two bronze medals in the 100 and 200 meters.

The silver medal went to Alice de Oliveira (4.42), while the bronze was awarded to Venezuelan athlete Rosibel Colmenarez (4.06). The fourth place went to Silvania Costa from Brazil (3.52), and the fifth to Argentine athlete Rosario Coppola (3.28).
