Brazil Defeats Peru and is already in the Female Goalball Semifinals

The Brazilian team secured a comprehensive victory and awaits either Mexico or Canada in the top four. "Hopefully, we can achieve the three-time championship," said Brazilian player Ana Carolina Duarte.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023.- Brazil is on a solid path toward defending the gold medals won in 2015 and 2019 in female goalball. The Brazilian team defeated Peru 12-5 on Wednesday, advancing to the semifinals of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

A strong performance from the team led by Gabriel Goulart, once again with Danielle Vilas as their top scorer with seven goals. Moniza de Lima, Ana Carolina Duarte, and a double by Katia Ferreira completed the score for the winners, while the Peruvians responded with five goals from Jenniffer Mamani and one from Diana Flores.

The victory at the beginning of the final stage, following three wins in the preliminary phase, is a positive sign for the Brazilian team. "We are very happy; it was a very important victory, so we are focused on reaching the semifinals," explained Ana Carolina Duarte.

"Canada and Mexico are two good teams. Canada has a lot of offensive power, and Mexico has a more consolidated and closed defense. But regardless of the opponent, we have to be well-prepared," emphasized the para-athlete.

The Olympian from Tokyo 2020 acknowledges that her participation in the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games "has been an extraordinary experience for the entire team. Personally, I am very proud to represent Brazil. Hopefully, we can achieve the three-time championship," she concluded.
