Para Swimming: United States Adds Two New Gold Medals

The Americans reached six gold medals in this sport thanks to the victories of Taylor Winnett in the female's S10 100m butterfly and Austin Evans in the male's S7 50m butterfly, both with Pan American records.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023.- The United States reached six gold medals in Para Swimming at Santiago 2023, thanks to the two they added on Thursday morning, both with Pan American records. 

In the female's S10 100m butterfly, Taylor Winnett emerged victorious with a time of 1:09.35, surpassing the record set by the Canadian Aurelie Rivard (1:10.00) from Toronto 2015. Second was her compatriot Mikaela Jenkins (1:09.90), and third was the Colombian María Barrera (1:12.26). 

Meanwhile, in the male's S7 50m butterfly, Austin Evans won the gold with a time of 29.31, beating the 30.05 that the Colombian Carlos Serrano had established at Lima 2019. Second was Serrano himself, with 29.44, and third was the Argentine Iñaki Basiloff, with 30.50. 

In the female's S7 50m butterfly, gold and silver went to Colombia thanks to Zharith Rodríguez (37:22) and Sara Vargas (37.98). The bronze went to the Mexican Naomi Somellera, with 39.08. 

Finally, the Brazilian Maria Gomes secured her third gold medal at Santiago 2023 by winning the female's S12 100m freestyle with a time of 1:00.12. Silver went to her compatriot Lucilene Da Silva (1:02.10), and bronze to the Venezuelan Belkis Mota (1:08.00).
