Peru Defeats El Salvador in Wheelchair Basketball

In the battle for the secondary spots in the female's competition, the South Americans prevailed 48-19 and will compete for fifth and sixth place against the winner of the match between Chile and Colombia.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023.- After defeating Chile in their last group stage match, Peru secured their second victory today in women's wheelchair basketball at Santiago 2023.

In the fight for the secondary positions, the South Americans defeated El Salvador 48-19 at the Polideportivo 1 at the Estadio Nacional. They will now face the winner of the match between Chile and Colombia for the fifth and sixth place. The loser of that match will compete against El Salvador for the seventh and eighth place.

Today, the Peruvian team displayed their superiority, especially in the first two quarters, which they won 15-4 and 12-0. The second half was a bit more balanced, but Peru still secured the third and fourth periods with scores of 12-8 and 9-7, respectively.

"We've been working for some time to be at the level of these Parapan American Games, so we're very happy to achieve two consecutive victories. Now, we await our next opponent, but we're aiming for Colombia because we have unfinished business with them after they defeated us in the South American Championship in July this year. We want to set things straight," said Peruvian point guard Lucero García.
