Wheelchair Basketball: The U.S. Closes First Round with Another Landslide

In the female's competition, the North American team defeated Argentina 87-26, securing an undefeated qualification for the semifinals. Despite today's defeat, the South American team also advanced to the semifinals.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- United States closed the first round of the female's wheelchair basketball competition with a perfect campaign and another landslide victory. The Americans, who had previously defeated Chile 96-10 and Peru 80-12 in their first two matches, secured a 87-26 victory over Argentina in the final game of Group B at Santiago 2023.

Both teams were already qualified for the semifinals, where the Americans will face Brazil and the Argentinians will compete against Canada.

Similar to their first two performances, the United States demonstrated immense superiority and had virtually secured the victory in the first quarter with a clear 22-9 lead. In the following three quarters, they maintained a similar dominance (26-4, 22-9, and 17-4) to conclude with a final score of 87-26.

Unless a major upset occurs in the semifinals, the gold and silver medal match is expected to feature the United States against Canada, the latter being the undefeated winner of Group A, although without establishing a dominance as clear as that of the Americans.

In the matches for fifth to eighth place, Peru will compete against El Salvador, and Colombia will face Chile.
