Ulicer Aguilera Keeps Breaking Records in Javelin Throw

The Cuban athlete won gold in the F13 category, surpassing both the Parapan American and South American records he previously held.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- Ulicer Aguilera from Cuba clinched the gold medal in the F13 category (visual impairment) for javelin throwing with a distance of 61.11 meters, surpassing his own record (59.12 meters) set at the previous Parapan American Games at Lima 2019.

In fact, the Cuban athlete born in the town of Banes had previously set an American record at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo (where he finished fourth), with a throw of 59.89 meters—a mark that was also surpassed by his new achievement in Santiago 2023.

"My goal was to break the Parapan American record, and that's what I focused on. I started a bit cold, but I gained momentum in the throws to achieve my best historical mark. I've been a bronze medalist at the world level, and now I aim for a medal at the Paris Paralympics because I left Tokyo with unfinished business after finishing fourth," commented the new Parapan American champion.

Nathanael Sánchez from the Dominican Republic secured the silver medal at the Centro Atlético Mario Recordón with his throw of 43.47 meters.

Meanwhile, Leroy Price from the United States claimed the bronze medal with a distance of 29.56 meters.
