Para Swimming: Brazilian Esthefany De Oliveira Secures Her Third Gold

The South American athlete emerged victorious in the female's 200m individual medley SM5, setting a Parapan American record. Mexican Nely Miranda also clinched gold, as did Brazil in the 4x100m mixed 49 points relay.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- Brazilian Esthefany De Oliveira has cemented herself as one of the key figures in Para swimming at Santiago 2023 by clinching her third gold medal, and setting a Parapan American record.

De Oliveira triumphed in the female's 200m individual medley SM5 with a time of 3:47.42, surpassing her own mark of 3:54.46 set in Lima 2019. Silver and bronze went to Colombians Mariana Guerrero (4:07.42) and Gabriela Oviedo (4:11.19).

The Brazilian had previously won the female's 50m butterfly S5 and was part of the 4x50 20 points mixed relay that secured the top spot.

Speaking of relays, Brazil reached 34 gold medals this Tuesday afternoon thanks to their victory in the 4x100 mixed 49 points relay, clocking in at 4:30.80. Colombia took the silver with 5:11.83, and Argentina claimed bronze with 5:12.25.

Lastly, Mexican Nely Miranda triumphed in the female's 50m backstroke S4 with a time of 52.88. Silver and bronze went to Brazilians Lidia Vieira (53.43) and Edenia Nogueira (59.33), respectively.
