Kiara Rodríguez confirms her favoritism in long jump in Santiago 2023

The 20-year-old Ecuadorian, holder of the world record, achieved the gold medal with a leap of 5.94 meters, surpassing her own Parapan American record.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- Kiara Rodríguez is one of the prominent figures in Para athletics at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games and had no trouble reaffirming her status as the favorite in the female's T47 class long jump (physical disability in upper limbs).

The Ecuadorian holds the world record, thanks to the 6.23 meters she achieved in the last Paris 2023 World Championships, where she also triumphed in the 100 meters flat, another of her specialties besides the double hectometer.

At the Centro Atlético Mario Recordón at the Estadio Nacional, the native of Guayaquil recorded a leap of 5.94 meters, not only earning her the gold medal but also allowing her to surpass her own mark for the continental event, which stood at 5.25 meters from Lima 2019.

Rodríguez, 20, confirmed that she is one of the main representatives of Para athletics in the continent, as she not only succeeded in the recent World Championships but also won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, gold at the 2019 Dubai World Championships, and the Parapan American Games four years ago.

The silver medal in the long jump at Santiago 2023 went to Venezuelan Paola del Valle García, with 5.53 meters, while the bronze went to Argentinian Aldana Isabel Ibáñez, who achieved a record of 5.08 meters.
