Chile Falls to Canada and Awaits Argentina in Female's Goalball

The host team of Santiago 2023 couldn't overcome the strength of the North Americans in the closing match of Group D and will face a tough challenge in the final phase.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- With a tough 11-1 defeat against Canada, Chile concluded its participation in Group D of female's goalball at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games and awaits a tough opponent in the final stage: Argentina.

The team coached by Samuel Hidalgo could do little against the Tokyo 2020 Olympians, with Emma Reinke once again standing out, scoring the first five goals and a total of eight in the North American victory.

With this result, and assuming there is no surprise in the match between the United States and Peru, Canada will finish second, and Chile third. They will face Mexico and Argentina, respectively, for a spot in the semifinals.

"We didn't see the defeat we suffered before against the United States as a defeat because we are gaining experience. This group had already faced us, and at least we are holding our own, reducing goals against us. In previous games, by the first half they were taking a ten-goal lead," said Edith Muñoz.

The Chilean player appreciates that the team has had "a beautiful experience. It is the first time we are in the Parapan American Games, and I am happy and proud to be where we are. Thanks to the effort, people see what we have done," she added.
