Shooting Para Sport: Colombian María Restrepo Adds Gold for Her Country

Representing Team Colombia, María Restrepo secured gold in the R6-50m Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed competition, earning her second gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- On Tuesday, at the Polígono de Tiro de Pudahuel, Colombian athlete María Restrepo claimed the first gold medal of the day. With a score of 241.5 after nine series, María Restrepo excelled in the R6-50m Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed event in Shooting Para Sport. 

The second position, along with the silver medal, went to Brazilian Carlos Garletti with a score of 238.4. The bronze medal, on the other hand, was awarded to the American Kevin Nguyen, who scored 218.2. 

This marks the second gold medal for the athlete from Antioquia, who previously secured victory on November 18th as the top competitor in R3-10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed, surpassing the Peruvians Milagros Palomino and Jorge Arcela who finished in second and third place. 

It's worth noting that in Shooting Para Sport, the athlete must use a firearm or compressed air gun, either a rifle or a pistol, to hit a target divided into 10 concentric rings. 

Shooters take aim from different positions (standing, seated, and prone) and from various distances, which can range from 10, 25, to 50 meters. 

This Tuesday, Shooting Para Sport also features the conclusion of the R4-10m Standing Air Rifle SH2 Mixed category.
