Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.- Brazilian Gabrielzinho is destined to be one of the standout figures in Para swimming at Santiago 2023. After setting a world record in the last Sheffield World Championships, he secured his second gold medal at the Parapan American Games by winning the Male's 200m Freestyle S2 final on Tuesday morning at the Centro Acuático at the Estadio Nacional.
In a competition with high expectations from the audience due to the presence of local talent Alberto Abarza, but the Minas Gerais-born swimmer was vastly superior to his rivals and claimed victory in the event with a time of 4:05.05. This mark lowers the Parapan American record set by Abarza himself at Lima 2019 by five seconds
The Chilean swimmer started at a disadvantage but made a comeback to secure the second spot in the event, earning his second silver medal of the Games. In third place was the Peruvian Rodrigo Santillán.
The morning session of Para swimming concluded with the Female's 100m Backstroke S7, won by Colombian Sara Vargas with a Parapan American record, marking her second gold medal after the 200m individual medley.
