Argentina Secures Decisive Victory Over Chile in Wheelchair Rugby

The Argentinian team won 77-34. President Gabriel Boric supported the local team from the stands.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- Chile suffered a clear defeat in the classic encounter with Argentina at the Centro de Deportes Colectivos of the Estadio Nacional. In Group A, the “albiceleste” unquestionably prevailed with a score of 77-34. 

The Argentinians quickly took the lead in the beginning with a score of 17-8. The superiority was maintained throughout the following three periods, and only in the fourth quarter was there a closer contest, with a 19-11 advantage for Argentina. 

President Gabriel Boric was present in the stands, visibly enthusiastic alongside the crowd whenever Chile hinted at a comeback. However, in the end, like the entire local fanbase, he had to accept Argentina's superiority in the classic match. 

In another result, Canada convincingly defeated Colombia 61-45, and they will face the United States tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. 

Chile, on the other hand, faces a tough challenge against Brazil in the second game of the afternoon at 5:00 PM. The Tuesday session concludes with the match between Argentina and Colombia, starting at 7:00 p.m. 

It is worth noting that this extraordinary and versatile discipline combines elements of rugby, basketball, and handball. Players compete in teams of four to pass the ball through the opposing team's try line. 

Contact between wheelchairs is allowed, as it is an integral part of the sport, and players use it to block opponents and prevent their movement. A lot of arm strength is required to respond to opponents' offenses. In fact, the foundation is the strength needed throughout the trunk and upper extremities.
