Chile Matches the Golden Harvest of Lima 2019 at Santiago 2023

After five days of competition, Team ParaChile has already achieved the goal they set before the start of these Parapan American Games.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- There are still six days until the conclusion of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, and Team ParaChile has already achieved the goal it had set and matched its performance at Lima 2019, the previous edition of the continental event that, until now, stood as its best historical performance. 

The local delegation is proving strong at home, and this Monday reached 10 gold medals, the same haul it had achieved in Peru four years ago. 

Para table tennis is the sport that has brought the most joy to the Chileans, with a total of seven first-place finishes, thanks to Ignacio Torres and Matías Pino in the MD14 doubles, Maximiliano Rodríguez and Cristián González in the MD8 doubles, Luis Flores in class 2, Maximiliano Rodríguez in class 4, Tamara Leonelli in class 4-5, Florencia Pérez in class 8, and Ignacio Torres and Florencia Pérez in mixed doubles XD14-17. 

The other victories have come thanks to Para powerlifting, with Juan Carlos Garrido (-72 kg), Camila Campos (-50 and -55 kg), and Jorge Carinao (-65 kg). 

Team ParaChile, in total, has 28 medals, of which 10 are gold, 11 silver, and 7 bronze. At Lima 2019, they finished with 33 medals, 10 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze. 

In this way, the hosts advanced to the fourth position in the medal table of Santiago 2023, surpassing Argentina, which has nine golds. The list is led by Brazil with 54 triumphs, followed at a distance by the United States (14) and Colombia (12).
