Brazil Concludes Another Golden Day in Para Swimming with Two New Victories

Vitoria da Silva and the 4x50 mixed 20-point medley relay team secured two gold medals for the Brazilian powerhouse.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- Brazil continues to demonstrate that it came to win everything possible in Para swimming at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, and it showed by closing this Monday with two more gold medals. 

However, in the male's 100m breaststroke SB11 (almost total visual impairment), the winner was Colombian Leider Lemus, with a time of 1'18''09. 

In the second position was also a representative of Colombia, Brayan Triana, with a time of 1'22''91, leaving Brazilian José Perdigao in the third spot with 1'23''54. 

Later, the victory of the Brazilian Vitoria da Silva came in the female's 100m butterfly S8 (slightly limited coordination, moderately limited leg movement, use of a single arm, or absence of limbs), winning with a time of 1'17''56. 

In second place was her compatriot Cecilia Jerónimo (1'20''44), while the bronze went to Colombia with Laura González (1'21''94). 

The relay that concluded the day at the Centro de Deportes Acuáticos at the Estadio Nacional was the 4x50m mixed 20-point medley relay, where the Brazilian team of Samuel da Silva, Roberto Alcalde, Mayara do Amaral, and Patricio Pereira won with a time of 2'41''13. 

Mexico, thanks to the efforts of Ángel Camacho, Pedro Rangel, Naomi Somellera, and Nely Miranda, took the silver with a time of 2'49''73, while the bronze went to Colombia, with 2'50''84, thanks to the swimmers Gabriela Oviedo, Miguel Rincón, Nelson Crispín, and Mariana Guerrero. 

Brazil ended Monday's session with five golds, bringing their total to 27 gold medals in the three days of competition in the Chilean pool.
