Monday, November 20th, 2023.- The pool at the Centro de Deportes Acuáticos of the Estadio Nacional is the perfect stage for Para swimmers from the continent to shine and showcase their talent at Santiago 2023.
In the male's 200 meters individual medley SM6 (moderately limited coordination on one side of the body, very limited lower torso and leg movement, for athletes of short stature or those lacking limbs), the winner was Colombian Nelson Crispín, who with a time of 2'38'77 secured the Parapan American record.
Brazil's Talisson Glock had to settle for silver, clocking a time of 2'43''49, while Mexican Jesús Gutiérrez, with a time of 2'43''71, earned the bronze.
Following that, it was the turn for the 100 meters butterfly S9 (slightly limited coordination of the arms and legs, significant limitation in one leg, or the absence of limbs), in which Brazilian Vanilton do Nascimento triumphed with a time of 1'03''50, defending the title he achieved in Lima 2019.
His compatriot Victor dos Santos came in second (1'04''53), while the bronze medal went to David Gelfand (1:05.38).
In the same distance and stroke for the female's category, the Parapan American champion was American Cali Prochaska, who stopped the clock at 1'13''54.
She was followed by Argentinian Daniela Giménez (1'14''13) and Chilean Kiara Godoy (1'17''90).
