In the -65kg category, with a lift of 191 kilograms, the Chilean secured first place and set a new Parapan American record.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- The weightlifter Jorge Carinao secured the eighth gold medal for Chile in the 2023 Santiago Parapan American Games by winning first place in Para powerlifting in the -65kg category with a lift of 190 kilograms, setting a new Parapan American record.

Carinao, with a solid performance (185, 190, and null), had no problems securing the top spot and surpassing the continental record held by Salvadoran Herbert Aceituno (182 kg) since the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima.

The silver medal went to Colombian Bryan Balanta (181), while the bronze was claimed by Venezuelan Carlos Alberto Betancourt (168).

Jorge Carinao adds his third Parapan American medal, as before this championship in Santiago, he won gold in Toronto 2015 and silver in Lima 2019. His sports career also includes a sixth-place finish in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
