Brazil Confirms Domination in Para Swimming with Golds and Records

The South American giant celebrated in the pool of the Estadio Nacional thanks to Beatriz Borges and Samuel da Silva.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- Brazil reaffirms its dominance in Para Swimming at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, as they celebrated two new gold medals on Monday, including continental records.

The first final of the afternoon was the 100-meter breaststroke SB14 (intellectual impairment), where the champion was the Brazilian Beatriz Borges, with a time of 1'14''98, setting a new Parapan American record.

In second place was her compatriot Debora Borges (1'15''02), while third place went to the Mexican Citli Salinas (1'25''25).

Next was the male's event of the 150-meter individual medley SM4 (severely limited movement of the torso and legs with a disability in the hands, or the absence of limbs), where there were six Mexicans among the seven participants. The champion was Ángel Camacho, who stopped the clock at 2'42''53, also setting a new record for the event.

The silver medal went to Gustavo Sánchez, with 2'43''43, while the bronze was for Jesús Hernández, with 3'08''31.

The 50-meter butterfly S5 (moderately limited coordination, with very limited movement of the torso and legs, or the absence of limbs) was also contested, where the gold went to the Brazilian Samuel da Silva, setting a new championship record with 31''50.

The silver was also claimed by a Brazilian, Tiago de Oliveira (36''70), and the bronze went to the American Abbas Karimi (37''62).
