Javiera Quintriqueo Nearly Surprised the Brazilian Favorite in Boccia

The Chilean representative took Paralympian Evani Soares da Silva to a tiebreaker in the final match of the morning session at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games in Lo Espejo.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- A stellar performance by Chilean athlete Javiera Quintriqueo pushed Evani Soares da Silva, a Brazilian Paralympian from Tokyo 2020, to a tiebreaker in the third match of Group B in the individual BC3 boccia category at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

The challenge, which closed the morning session at the Centro Deportivo Comunitario de Lo Espejo in the southern part of the Chilean capital, was characterized by parity between both competitors, extending the decision to a fifth ball.

At that point, the Brazilian's experience prevailed as she strategically positioned her ball, ultimately securing the victory and a confirmed spot in the finals. Meanwhile, the Chilean athlete will have to confirm her place against Guatemala's Eimy Losley.

But Evani is aiming for more. "The goal is to reach the semifinals directly. We have another game today (against Venezuelan María del Mar Vélez), and that's our goal for today," she explained.

The playoffs will take place on Tuesday morning, and the semifinal results are expected in the afternoon, while the bronze, silver, and gold medal matches are scheduled for Wednesday.
