Wheelchair Tennis: Chilean Diego Pérez Advances to Quarterfinals

In the quad mixed category, the local player secured victory with a double 6-1 score against Argentinian Leandro Bas. Also progressing were Brazilian Leandro Pena, Canadian Mitch McIntyre, and Ecuadorian Daniel Campaz.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- Chilean Diego Pérez advanced to the quarterfinals in the wheelchair tennis competition, quad mixed category, by defeating Argentinian Leandro Bas with a double 6-1 score. 

This category, making its debut at Santiago 2023, includes athletes with impairments affecting the hand that grips the racket and their lower extremities. 

In the quarterfinals, the Chilean will face Canadian Robert Shaw, ranked ninth globally and second seed in Santiago 2023, who received a bye in the first phase. 

The tournament's top seed is the US player David Wagner, ranked third globally, also receiving a bye in the initial phase. Wagner's debut will be against Brazilian Leandro Pena, who defeated Colombian Albeiro Moreno 6-0, 6-0 today. 

In the other two matches this morning at the Centro Deportivo de Tenis at the Estadio Nacional, Canadian Mitch McIntyre prevailed over Ecuadorian Edison Molina 6-2, 6-3; and Colombian Daniel Campaz defeated American Andrew Bogdanov 6-4, 6-2.
