United States Advances to Goalball Semifinals with a Victory over Venezuela

With four goals from Tyler Merren, the North Americans easily defeated the South American team, reaffirming their status as favorites heading into the final round at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- The United States solidified its bid for the gold medal in male's goalball by defeating the Venezuelan team 15-5 in the second match of the third day of the discipline at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

The North American team concluded the preliminary round in first place in Group B, securing three victories with 33 goals scored and 12 goals against.

Tyler Merren was the standout performer with four goals, while Zachary Buhler (3), Matthew Simpson (3), Tre'shaun Faison (3), and Christian King (2) contributed to the North Americans' scoreline. Among the Venezuelans, Carlos Linárez (4) and Julio Ferrer (1) sealed the result.

"It was a great effort from the whole team. It's great to step onto the court as a rookie, gain experience. I hope we do well, win the gold medal, and make it count," emphasized Tre'shaun Faison, a 20-year-old competing for the University of North Florida.

Goalball is a sport for individuals with visual impairments, where two teams of three players each seek to score goals by getting a sound-emitting ball into the opponent's goal while preventing it from entering their own.
