Para Table Tennis: Team ParaChile Aiming to Continue Winning Golds

The pairs Rodríguez-González and Torres-Pérez secured their spots in the finals for male's doubles and mixed doubles, respectively.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- The Chilean pair composed of Maximiliano Rodríguez and Cristian González secured their spot in the final of the male's doubles competition in Para Table Tennis, MD8 category, by defeating the Brazilian duo formed by David Andrade and Carlos Freire in the semifinals.

The Chileans emerged victorious in three sets against their opponents, with scores of 11-6, 11-9, and 11-9, in 24 minutes of play, accumulating a total of 33 points compared to their opponents' 24.

With this result, Rodríguez and González secure at least a silver medal for the local team, which previously gathered four gold medals in individual competitions. Maximiliano Rodríguez himself was one of them, claiming the first place in Class 4, defeating Cristián González precisely in the final.

Another gold medalist in the individual competition, Florencia Pérez, teamed up with Ignacio Torres (individual silver medalist) and will also compete for gold in the mixed doubles competition XD14-17 category.

The Chilean pair defeated the Brazilians Lucas dos Santos and Sophia Kelmer in a challenging five-set match, with scores of 11-7, 9-11, 5-11, 11-3, and 11-5, in 32 minutes of play.

In other semifinal results, the Brazilian duo Da Silva and De Oliveira defeated the Argentinean pair Garrone and Kuell (bronze medalists) 3-0 in the female's doubles WD5-10 category; The Brazilian pair Pereira and Marques won 3-0 against the Argentinians Muñoz and Neira in the mixed doubles XD14-17 Class; and the Brazilian duo Amaral and Fraga secured a 3-0 victory against the Colombian pair Guapi and Sánchez in the mixed doubles WD5-10 category.
