Rain of Parapan American Records at the Centro Acuático at the Estadio Nacional

The first five finals of Monday's Para Swimming session ended with new continental records. Brazil secured three gold medals, while Mexico and Colombia each obtained one.

Monday, November 20th, 2023.- The Monday session of Para Swimming at Santiago 2023 kicked off with a plethora of Parapan American records: the first five finals at the pool of the Centro Acuático at the Estadio Nacional concluded with new continental marks.

The day's first event witnessed Brazilian Gabrielzinho's victory over Chile's Alberto Abarza in the male's 100m backstroke S2. The subsequent four competitions ended with two more victories for Brazil, one for Colombia, and another for Mexico.

In the female's SB7 100m breaststroke, the gold went to Colombian Giselle Prada, clocking 1:39.26. Silver and bronze were claimed by Mexicans Naomi Somellera (1:41.53) and Natalia González (1:43.25), respectively.

In the male's SB14 100m breaststroke, Brazilian Gabriel Bandeira emerged victorious with a time of 1:07.42, followed by Argentina's Elian Araya (1:12.26) and Venezuela's Oswald Yzarra (1:15.23).

For the female's SM4 150m individual medley, the top spot was secured by Mexico's Nely Miranda (3:02.55), followed by Brazil's Patricia Pereira (3:06.10) with silver, and Vieira, also from Brazil, claiming bronze with 3:12.72.

Lastly, in the female's S5 50m butterfly, Brazilian Esthefany de Oliveira triumphed with a time of 47.08. Second place went to Colombia's Darlin Romero (51.99), and third to Canada's Jordan Tucker (54.70).
