Cycling Provided Chile's Only Medal of the Day

Matías Mansilla secured third place in the B-Class individual time trial (for individuals with visual impairments), marking the day's main achievement.

Sunday, November 19th, 2023.- On the fourth day of official competitions at Santiago 2023, Matías Mansilla, assisted by his brother Marcelo, earned a bronze medal for Chile in the B-Class individual time trial for visually impaired individuals, a competition held in Isla de Maipo. 

The Mansilla brothers' bronze medal, with a time of 30:57.85, was the only one for Team ParaChile on Sunday. The day also highlighted the Parapan American record set by Mariana Zúñiga, who scored 677 points in the compound archery qualifier, surpassing the 664 points by Brazil's Jane Karla Gogel at Toronto 2015. 

Meanwhile, the local goalball team secured a 4-1 victory against Colombia, marking their second consecutive win (previously defeating Mexico 8-4) and positioning themselves as strong medal contenders alongside Brazil. 

In other results, Chilean Valentina Muñoz finished fifth in the S8 category female's 100-meter backstroke swimming event. Sofia Fuentes lost 6-4 and 7-5 against Ecuador's Alexandra Meza in the wheelchair tennis singles' round of 16, while Marcos Matamala finished sixth in the -97kg para powerlifting final. 

In team sports, Chile fell 4-2 to Venezuela in CP football, while in blind football, they lost 2-0 against Brazil. In wheelchair basketball, the home team succumbed to Argentina, who won by 84-30.
