Brazil Adds Two More Golds in Para Swimming

Swimmers Lucas Lamente (200 meters individual medley SM9) and Talisson Glock (100 meters freestyle S6) secured two new titles for the South American country at Santiago 2023.

Sunday, November 19th, 2023.- Brazil remains a dominant force in the initial stages of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games. Among the disciplines that have brought them immense joy is Para swimming, where they have clinched two more top spots. 

In the 200 meters individual medley SM9 (slightly limited movement and coordination in both arms and legs, highly limited movement in one leg, absence of one leg), Brazilian Lucas Lamente emerged victorious with a time of 2:23.74, setting a new Parapan American record. 

The silver medal went to American David Gelfand with a time of 2:27.24, and the bronze was claimed by Brazilian Victor dos Santos, finishing in 2:27.93. 

Following that, the final for the 100 meters freestyle S6 (moderately limited coordination on one side of the body, highly limited in the lower torso and legs, and for swimmers of short stature or the absence of limbs) saw Brazilian Talisson Glock triumph with a time of 1:05.66. 

Colombian Nelson Crispin secured the second position (1:05.82), while Cuban Lorenzo Pérez closed the podium with a time of 1:08.50. 

Lastly, in the female's 200 meters individual medley SM10 category (individual style swimmers with slightly limited leg movement, moderately limited hip joint or feet movement, and a high degree of one foot or absence of part of the limb), American Taylor Winnett claimed the championship with a time of 2:43.80. 

The silver medal was earned by Mexican Silvana López (2:45.76), and the bronze went to the United States with Chloe Cederholm finishing in 2:45.89.
