Herlley Pereira Completes a Perfect Sunday for Brazil in Judo

The Brazilian secured the gold medal after defeating Argentinian Eduardo Gauto in the -73 kg J1/J2 category, for athletes with total or severe visual impairment.

Sunday, November 19th, 2023.- During its first day of competition, judo became a source of joy for Brazil, which dominated in all three finals that awarded medals at the 2023 Santiago Parapan American Games on Sunday. 

The day at the Centro de Deportes de Contacto at the Estadio Nacional concluded with the victory of Harlley Pereira, who secured his country's third gold of the day. 

In the -73 kg J1/J2 category, for competitors with total or severe visual impairment, the Brazilian defeated Argentinian Eduardo Gauto with an ippon. 

Cuba was a strong contender in the bronze finals of the same series. 

In the first of these, the winner was Jennys García, who also secured victory with an ippon against American Anthony Ferraro. 

Next, José Romero earned a spot on the Parapan American podium after defeating Brazilian Rayfran Mesquita with an ippon. 

Harlley Pereira's victory added to those previously achieved by his compatriots Lucía da Silva (-57 kg) and Thiego Marques (-60 kg).
