Lucia da Silva adds to Brazil's Golden Harvest in Judo

The athlete from São Paulo prevailed over the American Maria Mutia in the final of the -57kg category J1/J2, for competitors with total or severe visual impairment.

Sunday, November 19th, 2023.- Brazil is asserting its dominance at the beginning of the 2023 Parapan American Games, particularly in judo, securing its second gold of the day. 

In the female's final of the -57kg category J1/J2 (for competitors with total or severe visual impairment), the champion was Lucia da Silva, who achieved victory over the resistance of the American Maria Mutia with an ippon. 

The 42-year-old athlete from São Paulo confirms her track record, especially the silver medals she earned at the Paralympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016. 

Meanwhile, in the battles for bronze medals in the same category, the celebrations were Argentinian. 

Firstly, Paula Gómez secured victory with an ippon against the Brazilian Larissa Oliveira. 

Following that, Laura González denied a medal to the Colombian Eslendy Lamadrid, overcoming her with an ippon.
