Thiego Marques clinches gold in the -60kg category of J1/J2 judo

The Brazilian becomes champion after defeating his compatriot Eielton Lira in the final.

Sunday, November 19th, 2023.- The judo events at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games are beginning to crown their first champions, and as has been the trend in this edition of the continental event, Brazil is dominating the early medals. 

The powerful South American country, leading in the overall medal tally, secured the top spot in the discipline held at the Centro de Deportes de Contacto in Estadio Nacional, thanks to Thiego Marques's victory in the -60kg category of J1/J2. 

The new monarch in the series for athletes with total or severe visual impairment overcame his compatriot Eielton Lira in the final with an ippon and a waza ari. 

Meanwhile, in the battle for the bronze medal, Mexican Bryan Agurto defeated Cuban Yonaldy González with an ippon and two waza ari. 

Finally, the other bronze medal went to Uruguayan Henry Borges, who won against Argentine David Gómez with an ippon.
