Meanwhile, the American Cali Prochaska claimed victory in the female's 200m individual medley SM9, securing the United States' first gold in Para swimming at Santiago 2023.

Prochaska achieved a time of 2:53.88, followed by her compatriot Keegan Knott with 2:54.45. The bronze went to the Costa Rican Camila Haase with 3:08.85.

In Senestro's case, he won the event with a time of 2:22.25, while the silver and bronze went to Brazil: Ruan Lima, with 2:23.65, and Phelipe Melo, with 2:23.84.

It is worth noting that the SM10 category includes swimmers with slightly limited leg movement, moderately limited hip or foot joint movement.

Meanwhile, the SM9 category includes athletes with slightly limited coordination of arms and legs, or some very significant limitation in one leg, or the absence of limbs.

Earlier, the Argentinian Iñaki Basiloff had won the men's 400m freestyle S7 with a new Pan American record.
