Javier Ignacio Jiménez Secures Silver for Chile in Para Powerlifting

The Chilean athlete secured the second place in the 59-kilogram category at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

Saturday, November 18th, 2023.- Weightlifter Javier Ignacio Jiménez secured the first medal for Team ParaChile in powerlifting, claiming the silver medal in the 59-kilogram Group A category.

At the Gimnasio Chimkowe in Peñalolén, where a good number of spectators came to support the two local representatives in the 59-kilogram category, the Parapan American gold medal was awarded to Salvadoran Herbert Aceituno, who lifted 192 kilograms (187, no lift, 192, and no lift).

The second place and the silver medal went to Chilean Jiménez, with a lift of 153 kg (147, 151, and 153), who received his medal with emotion amid the celebration of the local audience.

The bronze was awarded to Niel García from Peru, lifting 151 kilograms (144, no lift, 151). The other Chilean in the competition, Diego Silva, finished in the sixth position with a result of 128 and two unsuccessful attempts.

Para powerlifting made its debut at the Parapan American Games in Rio 2007. This Para sport is performed lying on a bench, maneuvering a bench press. Para athletes with physical disabilities, including men and women with dwarfism, amputations, or limitations in leg strength or flexibility, participate and compete based on weight.
