Cecilia Jerónimo won a record-breaking gold for Brazil in Para Swimming

The swimmer achieved a new Pan American record in the 400 meters freestyle S8 category.

Saturday, November 18th, 2023.- One of the sports that delivers the most medals at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games is Para Swimming, and the Saturday afternoon session was filled with finals.

The first medal contention was in the female's 400 meters freestyle S8, which merged with the S7 category. The champion was Brazilian swimmer Cecilia Jerónimo.

Jerónimo, a current Paralympic medalist from Tokyo 2020, displayed all her credentials at the Estadio Nacional pool, where she set a Pan American record by completing the race in a time of 5:11.97, surpassing her own record of 5:17.73 set at Lima 2019.

The silver medal went to Mexican Paola Ruvalcaba, who finished in second place with a time of 5:18.97.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal was claimed by American swimmer Mckenzie Coan, clocking in at 5:19.10, which also became a new Pan American record in the 400 meters freestyle S7.
