Sport Para Shooting: United States Dominates the Second Saturday Series

The North American delegation secured all three medals in the P3-25m Pistol SH1 Mixed category. Yanxiao Gong, the gold medalist, registered a Parapan American record.

Saturday, November 18th, 2023.- Total dominance in the P3-25m Pistol SH1 Mixed category of Para shooting was showcased by the United States this Saturday at the Polígono de Tiro de Pudahuel. The North American delegation not only monopolized the podium but the competition winner also set a new Parapan American record.

Yanxiao Gong, with a score of 24 after ten series, was the best at Santiago 2023, breaking the previous record of 18 set by his compatriot Michael Tagliapietra four years ago at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.

Gong was followed by fellow Americans Marco de la Rosa, winning the silver medal with 16, and Michael Tagliapietra, once again with 13.

In another competition on this day, Colombian María Restrepo claimed the gold medal in the R3-10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed category with a score of 252.3 after nine rounds.

She also set a new Parapan American record, surpassing the score of 250.2 achieved by American Taylor Farmer at Lima 2019. Additionally, Restrepo secured a spot at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The silver medal went to Peruvian Milagros Palomino with a score of 251.3, and the bronze medal was awarded to her compatriot Jorge Arcela with a score of 229.7.
