Para Shooting: Gold and Parapan American Record for Colombian María Restrepo

The Para-athlete secured the gold medal in the R3-10 meters Air Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed category.

Saturday, November 18th, 2023.- A new joy for Colombia arrived on the Saturday session of the Parapan American Games, starring María Teresa Restrepo, who won the gold medal in Shooting Para Sport, specifically in the R3-10 meters Air Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed category.

At the Polígono de Tiro de Pudahuel, for the Santiago 2023 competition, the Colombian achieved a score of 252.3, averaging over the last of the nine rounds contested.

In addition, Restrepo set a new record in the Parapan American final, surpassing the score of 250.2 that American Taylor Farmer had at Lima 2019. And as if that weren't enough, the Antioquian athlete qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The silver medal went to Peruvian Milagros Palomino with a score of 251.3, and the bronze medal was awarded to her compatriot Jorge Arcela with 229.7. During the current session, there will also be a decision in the P3-25 meters Air Pistol SH1 Mixed series.

In Shooting Para Sport, athletes must shoot a firearm or compressed air gun, either a rifle or a pistol, and hit a target divided into 10 concentric rings. Shooters fire from different positions - it can be standing, sitting, or prone - and from different distances, such as 10, 25, and 50 meters.
