Sunday, November 5th, 2023.- Talk about rowing in Chile means talk about the Abraham twins. Local rowers Antonia and Melita Abraham have made remarkable progress in this sport, with a presence in Pan American competitions since Toronto 2015. There, they achieved their first podium, earning a notable second place in the double sculls without coxswain.
In Lima 2019, they confirmed their favoritism, winning two gold medals in the female's pair and female's quadruple sculls.
But at the recent Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, their consecration was complete. With one gold, three silvers, and one bronze medal, they announced to the Pan American sports community that their level is among the best.
They won gold alongside Magdalena Nanning and Victoria Hostetter in the coxless four; they secured silver in the women's double sculls, female's quadruple sculls, and mixed coxswain eight. The bronze was achieved in the women's coxswain eight.
With this, the Chilean rowers became the athletes with the most medals won in Pan American Games for their country in this discipline, totaling 8: 3 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze across three such competitions. The previous record was held by Chilean Felipe Miranda, with a total of 7 medals in water skiing.
It's worth mentioning that in Santiago 2023, rowing reached its best result ever for Team Chile, with 10 medals: three gold, five silver, and two bronze.
