Santiago 2023’s Stars: Kimberly García, the Peruvian Queen of Race Walking

The world champion lived up to expectations in one of the most controversial competitions of the Pan American Games.

Sunday, November 5th, 2023.- One of the most controversial competitions at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games was race walking, as the official responsible for measuring the distances made a mistake by miscalculating the route, rendering the athletes' performances invalid.

However, this didn't bother the star of Peruvian athletics, as the world champion, Kimberly García, confirmed her credentials in Parque O'Higgins.

The native of Huancayo secured a gold medal for her country, which had an excellent showing at the Pan American Games, finishing in ninth place in the medal table with a total of 32 medals.

After her performance at Santiago 2023, García said, "The race was quite fast, and the weather has helped a lot. I was prepared for anything, and the good thing is that I had a lot of support from fellow countrymen, despite the rain."

"I came for the gold, knowing that the South American level is very high, and I executed the strategy of starting strong and finishing with a killer pace," she added.

Furthermore, Kimberly García emphasized her upcoming goal, which is the five-ring event: "The next goal is the 2024 Paris Olympics, and I will fight to achieve the dream of being on the podium, training hard and giving my best to succeed."
