Paraguay Secures Its Only Gold Medal on the Final Day

On the closing day of the Pan American Games, the standout achievement was the gold medal won by golfer Sofía García, allowing Paraguay to climb nine places in the medal standings. Argentina solidified its seventh position with three new gold medals.

Sunday, November 5th, 2023.- It's no surprise that the United States won the most gold medals on the last day of the Pan American Games (8), bringing their total to 124. What is surprising, however, is the victory of golfer Sofía García, who on the final day gave Paraguay its first and only gold medal at Santiago 2023.

This was one of the most notable highlights at the event's conclusion. Paraguay, which didn't even have a silver medal but only six bronzes, thanks to García, managed to rise from 30th to 21st place in the final medal standings.

Mexico's performance was also remarkable as they solidified their third-place position, increasing their gold medal count to 52, surpassing Canada by six gold medals. Today, the Mexican team secured four new gold medals in golf, basque pelota (2), and archery, while Canada remained at the same 46 gold medals as the previous day.

Similarly, Argentina consolidated its seventh place above Chile, thanks to three new gold medals, two in male BMX Freestyle and one in basque pelota.

Colombia also had a strong closing day, showcasing its dominance in speed roller skating by winning three out of the four finals and securing silver in two of them. They also clinched a fourth gold of the day in squash.
